Job Description Job Description Crane Rigger Assembles rigging to safely lift and move equipment or material in oil field, manufacturing plant, or on construction project: Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved. Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps. Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hook. Gives directions to CRANE OPERATOR engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, or radio while guiding crane operators as objects are being moved and set into place. The Rigger sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches. * A Rigger’s work is physically demanding: * Must be in good physical condition. Able to lift, push or pull 80 lbs. * Dynamic Strength — the ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. * The ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously without “giving out” or fatiguing. * Stamina — the ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time. * Ability to keep or regain your body balance or stay upright when in an unstable position. * Manual Dexterity– the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands. * Must know where to attach the hooks, chains, and cables to lift a load safely. * Visually inspect rigging to ensure safety and reliability by checking tag for current inspection date. * Dismantle, account for, and properly store rigging equipment after job. * Make sure that safety requirements are met at all times * Maintain clean company equipment surfaces and component parts. i.e. crane, pickup, van, or heavy haul.
